EUNICoast is launching the 2026 edition of the Open Science Awards, recognising those who make openness of knowledge a daily practice. The University of the Azores leads the process, reaffirming its role in promoting open, verifiable science that benefits society.
Applications open: 6 July to 25 September 2026
Two competitions
Researchers (Junior and Senior categories): open science outputs produced between 1 January and 31 December 2025, including open access publications, preprints, data, software, code, or open educational resources, each with a public link, supporting documentation, and clear conditions for reuse.
Library professionals: support for data management plans, repositories, metadata, persistent identifiers, open licences, training, or open science support services across the Alliance's institutions.
One winner will be selected per category.
Why it matters
Across the Alliance, researchers and librarians are already making science more open, reusable, and transparent, whether by publishing in open access, sharing datasets and code, or supporting FAIR data, training, and reproducibility practices. These Awards give visibility to that work across our community of island, port, and coastal universities.
How to apply
Candidates present verifiable Open Science outputs or practices, with publicly accessible evidence, as described in the application form. Full rules are available in each form.

Winners will be announced during the Inter-Alliance AI Laboratory conference, EUNICoast's first international conference, held 4 to 6 November 2026 at the Université Le Havre Normandie (France).
