The EUNICoast General Assembly in Dubrovnik brought together the Alliance's key bodies and stakeholders to take stock of progress and look ahead to the next phase of development. The Board of Rectors meeting, held as part of the event, marked an important step in the Alliance's development, bringing together institutional leaders to review progress and help shape the next phase of EUNICoast's growth.
Joint degrees, a common research agenda, a shared virtual campus — EUNICoast's academic ambitions are real and growing. But for any of them to land, they need to be adopted, resourced and championed inside each of the alliance's partner universities. That's the work of the Boards of Vice-Rectors.
In Dubrovnik this week, Vice-Rectors for Education and for Research & Innovation met across two full days of sessions — separately and together — to translate the alliance's shared vision into decisions that will shape what students and researchers experience at their home institutions.
The Dubrovnik General Assembly produced visible results: a signed agreement, a validated research agenda, a student ambassador programme in the making. The Steering Committee’s job was to make sure the groundwork for all of that was in place — and to keep all partner universities coordinated across a five-day programme.
30 representatives met across four days to review progress, present financial figures, and align operational planning with the alliance’s research and education priorities.
What makes a European University Alliance more than a funding arrangement? At EUNICoast, a large part of the answer lies in its Teaching & Research Hubs – five interdisciplinary teams that bring together academics and students from all 13 partner universities around the coastal and maritime challenges that define the alliance. This week in Dubrovnik, the Hubs worked across three days and three distinct missions: exploring the alliance’s transformative potential, shaping its collaborative research priorities, and building alignment between the Hubs and the Work Package teams driving the project forward.
16 student representatives from 12 universities and 11 countries gathered in Dubrovnik this week for the EUNICoast General Assembly – not as passive attendees, but as co-designers of the alliance’s future. Over two intensive days, the Student Council worked on practical AI skills, explored neuromarketing at Dubrovnik’s Axon Lab, and began building the tools that will connect 120,000+ students across the alliance.
From 2 to 6 February 2026, the EUNICoast Alliance delivered its flagship educational activity Educating with Impact: Inclusion, Technology, and Creative Expression in Palma, Spain. The event brought together PhD candidates, early-career researchers, and educators from across the Alliance. Its objective was clear: explore how education can respond to societal challenges in coastal and island territories.
From 28 to 29 January 2026, EUNICoast successfully delivered its Capacity Building Programme at Université Le Havre Normandie (ULHN). A dedicated Train-the-Trainer session followed on 30 January, bringing together a smaller group of participants to support long-term knowledge transfer across the alliance.
