Across EUNICoast, the work of building a shared research culture is well underway, driven by Work Package 3 (Research and Innovation).
The EUNICoast Common Research Agenda is taking shape. Teaching and Research Hubs have been contributing to a public consultation running across all partner universities from late February to mid-March. The agenda is on track to be finalised by the end of April.
In early 2026, the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) has created two rectoral-level working groups directly connected to EUNICoast's educational agenda, led by Work Package 2 (Education).
EUNICoast's first International Summer School takes place in Le Havre this June. Hosted by Université Le Havre Normandie in partnership with ZUT and HOST, the programme invites undergraduate students from across the alliance to explore the future of ports over an intensive week combining lectures, professional workshops, and a port visit.
The University of the Azores is offering five fully funded PhD fellowships for researchers wishing to pursue doctoral work at the intersection of humanities, social sciences, and the unique challenges of island and coastal communities.
From 2 to 6 February 2026, twenty researchers and educators from five EUNICoast partner universities spent a week together in Palma, exploring inclusion, technology, and creative expression in education. We covered what happened during the week. Here is what participants made of it.
Held as part of the EUNICoast General Assembly in Dubrovnik, the meeting of the External Advisory Board brought together experts from public administration, research, industry and territorial organisations to strengthen the Alliance's strategic direction. The Board focused on how EUNICoast can generate meaningful long-term impact in coastal and island regions, and on how external advice can be translated more effectively into alliance governance and decision-making.
The EUNICoast General Assembly in Dubrovnik brought together the Alliance's key bodies and stakeholders to take stock of progress and look ahead to the next phase of development. The Board of Rectors meeting, held as part of the event, marked an important step in the Alliance's development, bringing together institutional leaders to review progress and help shape the next phase of EUNICoast's growth.
