The EUNICoast Legal Office met in Burgas on 17 and 18 September 2026, alongside the Alliance's Board of Rectors, to continue advancing one of the key institutional challenges for EUNICoast: the establishment of a common legal entity capable of supporting the Alliance beyond individual projects and funding cycles.
The EUNICoast Board of Rectors met in Burgas, Bulgaria, on 17 September 2026, with the leaders of the Alliance’s thirteen member universities. The meeting produced decisions on EUNICoast’s long term strategy, financial sustainability, legal structure, international partnerships and academic freedom.
The Waves of Change student contest, launched by the University of Sassari, invited students from across the EUNICoast alliance to explore the themes of Home Away from Home and Coastal Identity through visual and audiovisual works. Today, we’re thrilled to announce the winners, who captured the spirit of connection, heritage, and the unique bond between people and the sea.
The EUNICoast consortium is delighted to share the results of the first full cycle of its bimonthly webinar series ("Bridging R&I among Coastal Regions") launched in December 2025 to strengthen scientific and academic cooperation between partner universities and their Teaching and Research Hubs (T&R Hubs).
More than 7,000 international higher education professionals met in Glasgow from 8 to 11 September 2026 for the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). EUNICoast, the European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories, was there for all four days. It shared stand G53 with SEA-EU, the European University of the Seas. SEA-EU brings together nine coastal universities, is coordinated by the University of Cádiz, and is an associated partner of EUNICoast.
Twenty-five doctoral candidates from nine universities studied together for a week in Guadeloupe in June 2026. Université des Antilles hosted them. The Universitat de les Illes Balears in Palma co-led the programme. Both universities belong to EUNICoast, the European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories, an alliance of 13 universities funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme.
Open Science is not only about making the final publication openly available. It affects decisions made throughout the research process: how data are organised and documented, where research outputs are deposited, which licences are chosen, how results can be reproduced and reused, and how knowledge is shared with other researchers and society.
